Imagine taking a cycling tour of historical places, unexplored parts of a historical city to chasing Nordic lights in Norway or even going on a breathtaking tour of the eastern Himalayas. Such customized trips in groups of 10 to 12 are being made possible by a Bangalore based startup called Unventured who provide guided bicycle tours.
Formed in 2014, Unventured is a bootstrapped company. Their revenue originates from the tours they organise along with individual donations from the founding team. The Bangalore based organization has a five member team who gets support from volunteers who work as tour guides for various such trips across India. It’s headed by the effervescent Tejaswini Gopalaswamy and the astute Gurudeep Ramakrishna.
Gurudeep and Tejaswini are childhood friends. A mix of enthusiasm for travel and quest for the local history gave birth to the idea of Unventured.
Gurudeep is a MBA graduate and earlier used to work for MyParichay, a social recruitment technology startup. But his thirst for exploration led him to cycle from Manali to Leh in 2011 along with friends. “The entire experience left me wanting for more and I initiated a second Manali to Leh cycling trip along with strangers in 2012 as most of my other friends were not too keen to do the same trip again,”says Gurudeep.
